Waxing 101 – Your pre-wax guide.

Are you thinking of booking your first wax? or had a wax somewhere else and just wanna learn a bit more before jumping back in, or had a total nightmare and need to know what to avoid, then this guide is for you!

Firstly – Have you checked out the main Waxing Information Page on the website?

This details a lot of the key things you will need to know;

  • Which types of wax is used
  • What to expect at your first wax appt
  • Waxing Niceties – what to do before you wax
  • Contraindications – When you shouldn’t be waxed
  • Aftercare – What to do after your wax!

Hygiene Policy – Here at WW, we follow very strict hygiene guidelines. See Blog “Hygiene Policy” for full details.

I’m not going to go over these points again, so feel free to click the above links to read these!

You gotta let it grow –  for it to go!

The essence being, give me something to work with & for the wax to grab hold of. Your hair should be the length of a grain of rice, or a minimum of 3 weeks growth, but 4 weeks is better.

The most frequent comment I get is; “oh my hair grows really fast!”

Well, it may well have an initial growth spurt straight after you shave it, but after that  it’s the correct length we’re after, not the amount of hair you have, and that takes time! I’m a good therapist but even my skills can’t take hair out that’s been shaved a week before!

It takes around 3-4 waxes to set your waxing routine i.e. to get all your hair’s growing at the same stage together!

So, Without boring you about hair growth cycles (although, feel free to ask in salon if you want me to bore you, or go anatomy nerd), whilst waxing, can leave you hair free for up to 2 weeks, and thin hair, and promote slower growth etc, it won’t if you shave or trim in between, it won’t if you only have one holiday wax a year, and it won’t be totally smooth, if you don’t grow it out long enough to start with!

Talk to me!

This one may seem obvious, but it’s not, for some reason. I know waxing is a taboo subject –STILL! And I honestly have no idea why?

Some of my clients, rave about me to anyone, who’ll listen, about the benefits of waxing etc. Some don’t even like admitting they go to a wax specialist.. each to their own. I’m really NOT here to judge! I’ll take you as you are, and hopefully you’ll do the same for me!

But there are some things you definitely shouldn’t clam up about… the biggest one, being if you’re on any meds, or steroids, or anti-aging products. Even if you don’t think it’s relevant to waxing. I need to know!  I’m not being nosey, I’m being thorough!  If it’s on your skin, or in your bloodstream it may affect your wax.

So please fill in your consultation forms in detail, or speak up at the start of your wax, if you’re a regular, and somethings changed!

Will it Hurt?

I never promise a pain free wax, and those who do- cannot guarantee it!

If it sounds too good to be true… etc

Everyone’s pain tolerances are different, and that’s true even within families so, don’t listen to your sister, or your aunt, or your mate, as literally everyone’s experience of pain is unique to them. Also they may have had a bad experience, so don’t let their memory, cloud your judgement.

If it’s your first wax, you’ll be feeling nervous, on edge and totally don’t know what to expect, plus you have to take your underwear off – I get it! It’s a terrifying thought! But once you’re through that thought, and on the other side, I can safely say, you’ll love it!!! (waxing that is!), any pain really is fleeting & I’ll do my utmost to give you a comfortable, fast wax.

If you read a lot of my reviews, you will see a LOT of comments that say, “Most pain free wax, I ever had”, “Most comfortable wax by far!”, “barely felt a thing” “why did I wait so long..” etc

One last thing… Book your next wax!

I’m generally booked up a few weeks in advance (certainly pre-Covid), so if you’re limited on days or times, you can do, book in advance, if your able.

I do have a waiting list, on the booking system, that you can add yourself to for last minute cancellations, but if you want to stay on track with your wax schedule, make sure you’ve got your next one covered!
