Pregnancy Waxing

Can I get a wax whilst pregnant? – Your guide!

A question I get asked quite often, and the answer is –Yes you can!
From the moment you know,  to the day you meet your little one, pregnancy is one of the most personal experiences a woman can go through, and I’ve seen many a bump go from teeny tiny, to blossomy glow, to ready to go! Rest assured you’re in expert hands.

Is waxing safe during pregnancy?

Yes its safe. I’m always thrilled when one of my regular wax ladies comes in with the brilliant news they are expecting – and being able to share in their happiness & joy (quite often, I’m one of the first to know, because of what I do, so that’s pretty special as well).

Whatever your reason for wanting a wax, whether you’re a regular and just want to continue your wax throughout your pregnancy, or you just want to plan ahead & start waxing now before bump gets too big – we’ve got you covered.

I don’t recommend that you try waxing for the first time 8/9 months in… if you usually shave or use hair removal creams.  It’s not the time to be trying something new!!
Hormonal changes means that pregnancy hair can grow more densely & skin more sensitive. So if you’re thinking it might be easier for you, come the hour,  come the day, plan ahead & get a few in before your due date!! (4-6 wks apart).

You’ll get a consult form to fill in when you book – fill in all the pregnancy questions as thoroughly as possible, examples include any supplements you may be taking, or if you conceived via IVF and your still on any medications/ injections etc associated, or if under GP/Midwife supervision etc. The more we know the more can safely provide your service. (*Regulars – just let me know in your appointment and we can send you an updated form, in service). Unless your GP/ Obs has said not too, or your being monitored by them, you can be waxed (* with one exception).

*Sometimes with pregnancy women can be more susceptible to thrush or UTI’s. If you have this you cannot be waxed whilst the thrush/UTI is active. You cannot be waxed whilst on antibiotics! Ex. So if your given a week’s prescription for antibiotics, you need to be off them as long as you’re on them (so two weeks total).

Extra time

We’ve now added a Pregnancy wax section to our Intimate wax category (as of Feb 23’) to make it easier for you to know what to book,  and if you’re in your last trimester also add a little extra time for you and bump. To make sure you’re as comfortable as possible in the latter stages of your pregnancy.  Please book these if pregnant & then add any additional services as necessary.

What are the benefits to waxing whilst pregnant?

Most clients when asked this just respond with, they feel cleaner and more prepared for when it’s time to give birth, plus most say that self- grooming when you cannot see it or reach it becomes an issue they don’t want to have to deal with – so best leave it to the experts.

Whilst there is no clinical reason to wax, most midwives or obstetricians don’t care whether your vulva is groomed or not, having a hair free area makes it easier to stitch if you’ve had to have an episiotomy or C-Section. Some clients have come in a day or two before a C-Section or induction are scheduled to avoid the dreaded dry shave!!

Do you do anything differently?

Good question! Yes we do! …But if we told you, we’d have to kill you!  (we can’t give away all the secrets LOL).

So, as you progress through your pregnancy, you’ll have more blood flowing through your nether regions, so it can be swollen, darker in colour, more sensitive to heat, you’re more sensitive to touch, and that added with constantly changing hormones, can mean that you produce excess moisture or sweat or you can’t move your legs or hips as freely as you may have previously.
It requires the skill of a waxing professional to be able to safely and effectively wax you with all these things considered, and adapt each wax to suit each mum. So always leave it to the professionals.

If it requires a trim to make the waxing more comfortable for you, I will do that too, don’t try and tidy up before you get to me as you may make it too short to wax!

Oh and one more thing …..

“CONGRATULATIONS” on your baby news!
