Advanced Electrolysis
What is Advanced Electrolysis?
Simply put, advanced electrolysis, or Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (ACP), is a safe, non-surgical treatment using a fine probe and short-wave diathermy to instantly remove, improve or reduce minor skin blemishes & lesions.
This method has been used for over 100 years, providing a precise alternative to, or supplement for, cryotherapy or laser treatments.
WW currently only offers this service to existing clients who have either waxing or hair electrolysis services with me.
I am absolutely in love with this service, its fantastic results, its precision, its skill, and its minimal downtime. The idea behind this, back before I first trained (over 5 yrs ago), came from my clients!
They’d say things like;
“Oh, sorry about this skin tag here, I hate it, it keeps catching, and can get really sore”, or “I wish there was some way I could get rid of these thread veins round my nose, I hate wearing so much makeup and it barely covers it.”
It was the same story, I was hearing over & over they thought they’d have to live with it, and even if they had been to the GP’s and health providers they we’re told potentially it was cosmetic or superficial or it’s no longer covered by the NHS, so that was it, they thought it was just part of who they were now.
To clients – it can be massively distressing, uncomfortable, or even painful & a cause for self-consciousness, which then can impact mental health. I thought, I can help with this. I’m trained in Anatomy & physiology; I’m trained in skin. So, I added electrolysis to my portfolio for hair & then went on to gain my blemish qualification. Now I can give the best skin & hair service to my clients & they can get it all in one place.
The client feedback has been so positive, about these treatments and they’ve seen some brilliant results.
What can be deemed cosmetic by some, can be truly life changing for others & provide peace of mind or one less thing to worry about!
Currently my diary can often get booked up weeks in advance for hair services, so to avoid disappointment. I only offer this service as a VIP perk, for my existing clients to take advantage of!
This is so I can almost do a mini pre-check if you like, with clients during their hair services, that it’s a blemish I can identify, and treat and also that I have the space in my diary to accommodate the request, or we can plan ahead around their holidays & events, to include the healing time required. I will then go ahead and book them in for a consultation.
I will also potentially accept referrals if my client has a family member that may want to benefit from this service. This may open up later in the future, but for now I want to provide the best service I’m able to without stretching myself to thin, or compromising client safety.
Blemishes available to treat with advanced electrolysis are;
- Skin Tags
- Thread Veins (Telangiectasia)
- Milia
- Blood Spots (Campbell de Morgan /Cherry Angioma)
- Spider Naevi
- Seborrheic Keratosis
- Xanthelasma
- Sebaceous Hyperplasia
- Hairs in moles
- Moles-* (GP or Dermatologist must have checked all Moles & proof of check required)
These treatments are performed using Short Wave Diathermy and a very fine probe ensuring precision & minimal discomfort. Using diathermy, the probe cauterises the blemish which is then either fully removed at the appointment time or will disperse naturally over a short period. More than one treatment may be required per blemish, but you will be advised with your personalised treatment plan in advance. Moles can also be reduced using this method, we can also treat hairs in moles provided GP/Dermatologist consent is given.
SpotCheck
New for May/June 2026!
Wax & Wellbeing is registered Spot Check clinic. We are delighted to be partnered with Dr Ayub Khan an NHS/Private General Practitioner and GP with Extended Role (GPwER) in Dermatology. He holds an MSc in Dermoscopy and Preventative Dermato-oncology.
Spotcheck is the UKs first GP & Dermatology Advice and Guidance Service for Cosmetic Practitioners.
Don’t risk it! Spot Check it.
Got a blemish lesion or mole, you’d like assessed. You can now book in for a blemish check service. Either, as part of your Blemish consultation, where you’d like ACP treatment to remove or reduce after assessment. Or as a standalone service for peace of mind.
*Note; Moles will be required to have this service as part of their consultation.
This may also be required if needed to accurately identify a lesion before any treatment can go ahead. I will not treat any lesion that cannot be identified without 100% certainty. I am trained in various lesions but if in any doubt I will always refer for assessment
I have trained alongside Dr Khan in Dermascopy, to offer this professional service to clients. Dermoscopy & clinical Images are sent to Spotcheck to assess, these will then be reviewed by a dermatologist & a full report will be sent back to the practitioner & can be sent to the client.
General Information
- Procedure Length: Sessions typically last between 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the number and size of blemishes being treated.
- Pain Level: Mild to Mid discomfort may be experienced depending on the size of blemish, but it is generally well-tolerated. Numbing cream can be applied if needed. Needs to be applied a minimum of 30 – 45 minutes before hand. You can come in with it still applied and I can remove. Most people report they definitely thought it would be more painful than it actually was after treatment.
- Recovery Time: Minimal downtime is required, with most people returning to their normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. However- depending on the size of the blemish you must be careful not to knock it, or do anything to annoy the area immediately after treatment. So going to the Gym or sitting in a Hot Tub – will not be a good idea. You still need good aftercare! The blemish will take between 2 weeks and 6 weeks to fully heal, and skin in the area can continue to improve for up to 4 months post treatment.
Key Benefits
- Instant Results: Electrolysis provides quick precise immediate removal or reduction or improval of blemishes often providing instant relief with visible results.
- Precision Treatment: The treatment only targets the affected area without damaging the surrounding skin or tissue, making it the most precise method for blemish removal.
- Suitable for all skin tones: ACP Electrolysis is effective on all skin types and colours, unlike some other treatments that may be less effective on darker skin tones or come with risk of Hypo or Hyper pigmentation. Electrolysis targets precisely and minimises trauma to the skin.
- Versatile, safe & effective: Electrolysis is a safe procedure with a long history of use in cosmetic dermatology (over 100 years) providing effective results without the need for invasive surgery. It can be used to treat a variety of skin blemishes, from small Milia & Cherry’s to larger skin tags, making it a versatile choice for many skin concerns.
- Cost effective: Compared to other cosmetic treatments that may require multiple sessions and maintenance. Electrolysis offers a cost-effective solution with long-lasting results. More than one session may be required, but it is not ongoing, and it can be far more budget friendly than other methods such as surgery.

Preparing for Your Appointment
Do
- Avoid caffeine on the day or right before. It can increase skin sensitivity, and nerves.
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. The healthier the skin, the quicker the healing time.
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimise sun exposure and wear sunscreen & hats if facial blemishes, to protect your skin before the treatment.
- Cleanse Your Skin: Ensure your skin is clean and free of makeup or lotions or fake tan on the day of your appointment. Make up is a big no – no in the area to be treated, as can lead to infection. Exfoliate & moisturise 2-3 days before-hand to ensure healthy happy skin.
Don't
- No Tanning: Avoid tanning beds or sunbathing as it can increase the risk of skin irritation and pigmentation changes and sunburn.
- Sweat on the Day of Treatment – No Gym, or exercise! Before or after. Sweating raises your heart rate which dilates your capillaries, which increases blood flow! If you are having a skin tag removed, we don’t want to increase blood flow. So you have permission to be lazy so as not to affect your treatment.
- Don’t Schedule Other Treatments: Avoid scheduling other cosmetic treatments, such as botox, fillers, micro needling, chemical peels or laser treatments, close to your electrolysis appointment. Don’t give your skin too much to cope with.
Advanced Electrolysis FAQ’s
When should ACP electrolysis be done?
Electrolysis can be done at any time of the year, but it is crucial to avoid a lot of sun exposure before and after the treatment to prevent skin irritation, swelling and pigmentation changes. The procedure is suitable for anyone looking to remove skin blemishes, but probably best not right before an event or holiday.
Will it hurt?
The treatment itself is a little uncomfortable but easily tolerated. There are minimal after effects, with a little tightness and scabbing to be expected. A consultation will be carried out to ensure the client is suitable for treatment and to establish an appropriate treatment plan. After care will be given after treatment.
Why do you need to know and plan around events & holidays?
You must have your treatment at least 4 weeks before you travel or a couple weeks after. The total healing process takes anywhere between 4-6 weeks and prolonged sun exposure, sea salt, chlorine & sweating excessively may hinder the healing process, Also tanning & sunburn may be a factor.
You do not want to attend an event after a week, where you may have to watch not to knock any crusts or have them visible or hard to manage, and the event could be anything i.e. running a Hyrox/Marathon = excessive sweating (plus training). Got a wedding, will the blemish be visible with what your wearing? See where we’re going with this. We prioritise healing, aftercare, & you, to ensure you get the best results. If the blemish has been picked, scratched or exposed to the sun, etc.. then pigmentation and scarring are highly likely to occur.
Can I use a numbing cream?
Could anything stop me from having treatment?
Yes, like with anything there are certain medical conditions and factors that may negate you being suitable for treatment.
See the list below for a quick guide to those conditions which unfortunately, rule out electrolysis.
- Accutane (needs to have ceased for 12 mnths) Retinoids (prescription strength)
- Active Cancer (all forms)
- Active Herpes Virus / Cold Sores
- Blood Thinning Medication or Blood disorders or Haemophilia
- Keloid Scarring anywhere or Recent Scar Tissue (in the treatment area)
- Pacemaker
- Pregnancy (your hormones are in flux), best to wait till post pregnancy.
- Skin Diseases / Disorders
- Sunburn (in the treatment area) or use of tanning beds.
What is Dermascopy?
Dermoscopy is a non-invasive procedure that uses a specialised tool/magnifying camera called a dermatoscope to closely examine your skin, moles, or blemishes, and take photos – these photos use two light spectrums.
This magnifying tool enhances the view of the skin’s surface and allows dermatologists to observe underlying patterns and features. This detailed examination helps identify potential issues, that may not be visible to the naked eye.
